PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting wire material capable of exhibiting high reduction effect of AC loss. SOLUTION: An intermediate layer 12 formed of a metal oxide, a superconducting layer 13, and a metal stabilization layer 14 are laminated on a metal base material 11 in this order. A first groove 18 is formed on the metal stabilization layer 14 along the longitudinal direction so as to expose the superconducting layer 13, and a second groove 19 is formed on the exposed superconducting layer 13 along the longitudinal direction so as to expose the intermediate layer 12. At this time, in a direction almost parallel to a laminated surface of the intermediate layer 12 of the metal base material 11 (surface 11a), a width of the second groove 19 is narrower than the first groove 18, and the superconducting wire material 1 is obtained.
