A method and apparatus for keeping user state consistence in each network element in an Access Service Network (ASN) are provided in the invention. In a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) system, with indication information which is exchanged among the network elements in the ASN and indicates the user state in the network element, the invention enables the network element to learn the user state in other network elements, and provides the network element a basis for adjusting the user state in the network element itself to keep consistent with the user state in other network elements. According to the scheme of the invention, the emergence of network abnormal situations is reduced significantly, and the user's use experience is ensured.
