The device has a light source (1) for radiating light, and a position sensitive photo sensor (10) receiving reflected light as a fingerprint image. A fingerprint-capture unit and a data processing unit capture fingerprints in multiple spectral regions, where the fingerprints and parameters are derived in the regions to store time series in the regions and to examine the time series in pulse signals. Prescribed properties of amplitudes of the pulse signals in the regions are examined. Predetermined properties characteristic of oxidized blood is evaluated as an authenticity criterion. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatically recording fingerprint using a data processing unit.
