The present invention discloses a power control method for wireless local area network (WLAN) access point (AP), which includes: AP obtains the present signal intensity or the data transmission quality; the obtained signal intensity or data transmission quality is compared with a preset threshold, and the comparison result is obtained; according to the comparison result, whether the transmission power of the AP itself is adjusted or not is determined. The present invention further discloses a power control device for WLAN AP, and the power saving of the WLAN AP is enabled through the flexible control to the transmission power.
