PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc discharge lamp, which is free from breakage of a seal part of stepped joint glass within a sealed tube by suppressing the temperature rise of the seal part. SOLUTION: In the short-arc discharge lamp, the sealed tube 11 continued to an arc tube 11 and a lead rod 23 supporting electrodes 21 and 22 disposed within the arc tube 11 are sealed by the stepped joint glass 13 within the sealed tube 12. A first metal plate 4A high in heat conductivity and a second metal plate 4B high in electrical conductivity are fixed to the lead rod 23 protruding out of the sealed tube 12 so as to hold the lead rod 23 from both sides.
