PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate between dirt and atmosphere leak-in in a pretreatment before exhaust gas component measurement. SOLUTION: In the pretreatment, a sampling device is purged by using refined air as sampling gas and background gas. It is determined based on the gases whether purge of the sampling device is finished or not. When determined that the purge of the sampling device is not finished, existence of atmosphere leak-in is detected by using the atmosphere as the sampling gas and the background gas.
