This invention is suitable for a data memory field. A method and apparatus for checking and synchronizing data block are provided in a distributed file system. The distributed file system includes a metadata server, a data block server and a memory medium which are lined to each other; one of the data block servers in the same group is pointed as a primary data block server by the metadata server, and the others are taken as secondary data block servers. The method includes: the metadata server initiates a data block checking request to the primary data block server (S201); the primary data block server checks all the data block information managed by the secondary data block servers in the group, and synchronizes according to the check result; and then, reports the check and synchronization result to the metadata server (S202); the metadata server updates the metadata information according to the reported check and synchronization result (S203). In this way, the check and synchronization of the database is finished by the metadata server only in extreme less time.
