PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bottom ventilation method for a coke oven, by which gases such as CO that tend to remain in the floor part of an oven bottom can be efficiently blown away for ventilation. SOLUTION: When the CO concentration reaches a predetermined level or higher as detected with CO sensors 12, the opening areas of openings 13 of ventilation piping 10, which is determined using a baffle plate 14, are decreased, so as to increase the rate of blowing out of ventilation air that is blown out from the openings 13. Thus, gases such as CO that tend to remain in the floor part of an oven bottom 5 are efficiently blown out for ventilation. Also, gases such as CO are efficiently blown away through blowing out of ventilation air toward corners of the floor part of the oven bottom 5. When the ventilation piping 10 is composed via connection of a plurality of piping members 11, a plurality of gas sensors 12 are arranged corresponding to the piping members 11, respectively. For only openings 13 of the piping members 11 located at positions where the gas concentrations are each at a predetermined level or higher as detected by the gas sensors 12, the opening areas are decreased with the use of the baffle plate 14.
