摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fast obtain additional subchannels as needed by allocating new code phase subchannels. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a service option overlay for a CDMA wireless communication system which defines multiple allocatable subchannels on a reverse link by assigning long pseudo noise (PN) codes of different code phases to each subchannel. An instantaneous bandwidth required for each on-line subscriber unit is then met by dynamically allocating none, one or multiple subchannels as needed on the basis of each network layer connection. The system efficiently provides a relatively large number of virtual physical connections between the subscriber units and the base stations on the reverse link for extended idle periods when computers connected to the subscriber units are powered on, but not presently actively sending or receiving data.
