Provided is a method for providing a GUI and a device adopting same. The method for providing a GUI comprises providing a GUI item which includes a specific figure, wherein at least one category to which the content stored in a selected storage medium belongs is displayed to occupy a predetermined range along a rim area of said specific figure, wherein said GUI item is intended for selecting a category and content in accordance with an inputted user manipulation. Consequently, the user may select content for each category in an easier manner.
