PURPOSE: A positive active material is provided to ensure improved thermal stability and high capacity by controlling a ratio of Ni, Co and Mn and to maintain excellent cycle lifetime property. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a positive active material comprises the steps of: adding nickel, cobalt, and manganese materials to water to prepare metallic aqueous solution; adding the metallic aqueous solution, base and chelating agent to a reactor in an inert atmosphere, stirring the mixture, and co-precipitating the nickel, cobalt, and manganese to prepare metal hydroxide; mixing the metal hydroxide and lithium raw material and then heat treating the mixture; and heating again the first heated material.
