PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a game machine, the control device normally controlling variable display without causing trouble in controlling the variable display even if a display control board cannot receive a symbol stopping command when a timing to terminate the variable display comes. SOLUTION: If the display control board cannot receive the symbol stopping command when the timing to terminate the variable display designated by a variation pattern designating command comes, the display control board cannot terminate the variable display. In that case, the display control board continues such display that stopping symbols designated by a stopped symbol-designating command move back and forth within corresponding display areas 3a1-3c3, moving display, so to speak, swinging in the lateral direction, till it receives the symbol stopping command from a main control board. With this structure, even if the display control board cannot receive the symbol stopping command, the variable display can be normally controlled without any trouble in the control of variable display.
