PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron-base sintered alloy which has excellent machinability while maintaining its sufficient strength even if Cu and Ni regarded almost as essential elements for strengthening an iron-base sintered alloy are hardly comprised. SOLUTION: The iron-base sintered alloy is obtained by sintering raw material powder composed of Fe-Cr-Mo-base powder, carbon-base powder or Mn-Si-base powder, which has a density of≥7.4 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, and has a metallic structure composed of martensite and bainite, and in which the area ratio of martensite to the whole of the metallic structure is≤40%, and the grain size of martensite is≤20μm. The iron-base sintered alloy in which the area ratio of the martensite is≤40% and the grain size thereof is≤20μm, has excellent machinability. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
