<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system and an authentication method further enhancing safety of position authentication. <P>SOLUTION: In the authentication system 1, a pseudo satellite 4 is arranged in an access permission area provided in an enterprise, and transmits a pseudo satellite signal including its own arranged position and authentication ID. A notebook type personal computer 2 transmits an authentication request signal including the arranged position and authentication ID included in the pseudo satellite signal, to an authentication server 5 when receiving the pseudo satellite signal from the pseudo satellite 4. The authentication server 5 carries out authentication processing on whether the notebook type personal computer 2 is located within an access permission area at present by collating the authentication ID included in the received authentication request signal, with authentication ID within a period of present validity stored in authentication ID data with which the arranged position included in the authentication request signal received from the notebook type personal computer 2 is associated.
