Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent element which comprises a substrate, a positive electrode, an organic light-emitting layer and a laminated negative electrode that is composed of two or more layers including a lower negative electrode and an upper negative electrode having different specific resistances, said positive electrode, organic light-emitting layer and laminated negative electrode being sequentially arranged from the substrate-side. The main component of the lower negative electrode and the upper negative electrode is one of ITO, IZO, GZO or AZO. In the laminated negative electrode, the specific resistance of a lower negative electrode that is closest to the organic light-emitting layer is higher than the specific resistance of an upper negative electrode that is adjacent to the lower negative electrode and further from the organic light-emitting layer than the lower negative electrode.
