<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver for automatically tuning in another channel which is decoded when a channel which is not decoded is tuned in, in order to alleviate time and effort of a user. <P>SOLUTION: The TV receiver includes channel up/down keys, a tuner, and a control microcomputer having an image quality information acquisition portion. The image quality information acquisition portion obtains image quality information and encoded information from PMT (Program Map Table) information. If the channel up key is operated (S1), the control microcomputer receives digital broadcast signals of a channel next to a channel tuned in currently (S2). Then, after the PMT information included in the received signals is obtained (S3), the image quality information and the encoded information are obtained for the channel using the image quality information acquisition portion (S4). When the control microcomputer determines that decoding is not done based on the obtained image quality information and the obtained encoded information (NO at S6), the following channel is tuned in automatically (S11).
