404,076. Knitting-machines. SPIERS, Ltd., W., SPIERS, W., and SPIERS, E., Walnut Street, Leicester. Aug. 26, 1932, No. 23907. [Class 74 (ii).] A superposed needle cylinder machine having double-ended needles is provided with means for feeding yarns a, b to the needles at separated feeding points at the same feed, and patterning means operative upon the sliders 3a of one cylinder so that some of theneedles 2a of that bed take and knit one only of the yarns and others of the needles take and knit only the other or another of the yarns. By causing the needles 2f of the other bed to take and knit the yarns together a fabric having no visible float threads is produced. The sliders 3a are preferably selected by pivoted cams 4 arranged at levels corresponding to pattern butts 3b on the sliders, and brought into action by pins upon a pattern drum. The patterning means may be rendered inoperative, e.g. during the knitting of the leg and foot portions of socks. Alternatively, patterning means as described in Specification 282,904, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], may be employed. Contrasting yarns may be substituted one for another at the feeding points, and a yarn guide as described in Specification 334,654, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], may be provided. The machine may also have knot-tying mechanism, e.g. as described in Specification 239,268, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.]. A knocking-over disc or wheel 34 arranged eccentrically with respect to the needle cylinders may be provided adjacent to the lower end of the top cylinder to provide loop drawing or knocking-over edges for the rib needles. |
