PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stator coil of an axial gap rotary electric machine which exhibits superior manufacturing performance, while ensuring connection reliability between coil pieces. SOLUTION: The stator coil 10 of the axial gap rotary electric machine for rotating a rotor includes a plurality of coil pieces 11 and a plurality of connecting terminals 40 for connecting the plurality of coil pieces 11. In the stator coil 10, each coil piece 11 has an upper layer coil piece 15, a lower layer coil piece 14 and a part to be locked 16, the upper layer coil piece 15, the lower coil piece 14 and the part to be locked 16 are formed by bending a single conductor, the connecting terminals 40 are disposed so as to be superimposed in a rotating axis direction of the rotor, and the other end of the upper coil piece 15 is electrically connected to the other end of the lower layer coil piece 14 to form a coil loop.
