PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key system capable of avoiding such an adverse situation that a person is locked out outdoors by getting out of a building without carrying an electronic key. SOLUTION: An entrance door 16 is provided in the doorway 15 of the building 10; and a motion detection sensor is provided above a handle 19 in the entrance door 16. The motion detection sensor is a sensor for detecting the person's motion of being about to touch the handle 19. A footwear cupboard 14 is provided in the entrance 11; and the electronic key is stored on the footwear cupboard 14. A second communication portion 33 capable of communicating with the electronic key is provided in the entrance 11; and a communication area of the communication portion 33 is set to include the footwear cupboard 14. In the case where the motion detection sensor detects that the person is about to touch the handle 19 of the entrance door 16 and where an ID code signal from the electronic key is received by the second communication portion 33, a speaker 32 provides notification that the electronic key is left as it is in the building 10.
