PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift device for an automatic transmission performing restriction such that a transmission switching member is not singly turned through vibration or the like during when a change lever is placed in a sub-gate and having not so many number of components. SOLUTION: A gate plate includes an auxiliary plate 7 constituted of a soft material softer than a plate body, and an integrally formed engagement piece 72 having elasticity is provided on the auxiliary plate 7. Whereas, an engagement part 34 is provided on the upper surface of a switching member body 30 of the transmission switching member 3. When the change lever 4 approaches to a drive range, the engagement part 34 is engaged with the engagement piece 72, and engagement with the engagement piece 72 is removed at turning of the switching member body 30 accompanying with the movement of the change lever 4 from the drive range to the other range of the main gate.
