PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus reusing a recovered carrier, even in the occurrence of a paper jam or the like. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: a transfer belt 40; a cleaning roller 601 coming into contact with the transfer belt, to clean the transfer belt; a cleaning roller cleaning blade 602 cleaning the cleaning roller; a first tank 610 receiving a recovered material recovered by the cleaning roller cleaning blade; a transfer belt cleaning blade 603 coming into contact with the transfer belt, to clean the transfer belt being cleaned by the cleaning roller; a second tank 620 receiving the recovered material; a main control part issuing a contact command or a separation command; and a transfer belt cleaning blade drive part 730 bringing the transfer belt cleaning blade into contact with the transfer belt, or separating the transfer belt cleaning blade from the transfer belt.
