PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive refrigerator including a highly reliable low pressure chamber by simple control without using a pressure sensor. SOLUTION: The refrigerator having the low pressure chamber within a body includes: a vacuum pump 16; a detection means 13 detecting the opening/closing of a storage chamber door 2; and a control means 19 controlling the operation/stop of the vacuum pump. Decompression target pressure in the low pressure chamber is set to pressure in the vicinity of the decompression maximum pressure of the vacuum pump (=decompression target pressure). The control means controls the operation/stop of the vacuum pump based on a set time determined by the decompression maximum pressure and the decompression target pressure to maintain the pressure in the low pressure chamber at desired pressure.
