PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a glycerol monofatty acid ester at a high selectivity under a high conversion with a simple process without using a solvent. SOLUTION: In the method to cause a fatty acid expressed by general formula (1) R<SP>1</SP>-COOH (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group having a carbon number of 8 to 25) and glycerol to react under the presence of an acid catalyst to produce glycerol monofatty acid ester, the method for producing glycerol monofatty acid ester causes the fatty acid and glycerol to react in the range of temperatures of 60 to 150°C while mixing these under agitation conditions that the tip end peripheral speed of an agitation blade is 2 m/s or more and also the turn number of path is 1,000 turns/h or more.
