PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type picture display which is operated continuously for 24 hours, with the development of the device concerned being requested for its use in a picture service device, a publicity-and-advertisement medium, or the like, at airport, railroad, or commercial facilities, or the like. SOLUTION: The projection-type picture display includes an illumination device which has a plurality of lamps as light sources, and a switching device which switches light emission route so that it may emit light only from some of the plurality of lamps; an operation switch Sw for giving instructions for starting the projection of a picture; and a lamp-driving part for switching the plurality of lamps to turn on or turn off the light. When the operation switch Sw is turned on, the picture display switches the lamp-driving part and the switching device for each prescribed cycle t2, after an initial adjustment time t1 elapses, to conduct continuous picture display operation, the lamps are switched.
