<p>The diode driver has an input (2) to connect a voltage source and an inductor (4) which is arranged between the input for the voltage source and another input (18) of one or multiple laser diodes. A longitudinal switch (3) is provided to charge the inductor which is arranged in series with the inductor. A discharge switch (6) is also provided in the diode driver. A security- longitudinal switch (16) is arranged in series with the longitudinal switch to ensure a safe, fast shutdown of the laser diode.</p>
