The tank (1) has a multi-shell structure with tank volumes enclosed from each other, where higher and lower filling pressures of the tank volumes are decreased outwardly. Tank walls (2, 3) exhibit different cross-sectional shapes. Reinforcing ribs (4) are provided between the tank walls. The tank walls are made of a fiber composite provided under prestress or residual stress. A liner is laminated in the tank walls. The tank is built as a supporting element in a motor vehicle. One of the tank walls has a round, cylindrical shape and is completely encased or looped by the other tank wall. The fiber composite comprises glass fiber, carbon fiber and/or metallic fiber.
