PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of predicting a life of a refractory capable of easily predicting a life of a wear refractory with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A thermocouple 31 is disposed between the wear refractory 21 and a permanent refractory 20 constituting a vacuum degassing furnace 1, and temperature/remaining thickness relation data representing a relation between a wear back temperature measured by the thermocouple 31 and a remaining thickness of the wear refractory 21 are constructed as database. Furthermore, the data are constructed while updating relational data of times of temperature charging between a wear back-face temperature and the number of times of charging, and the number of times of the charging which makes the wear refractory 21 reach the wear back-face temperature which becomes a remaining thickness in a life of the wear refractory is predicted.
