The method involves transmitting a detection pulse changed with respect to the driving pulse, to the actuators (2) on the presence of a defect in place of or in addition to the driving pulse. The detection pulse is changed with respect to the driving pulse regarding frequency. The frequency of the detection impulse is changed to structure-borne noise-inducing frequencies in order to mark the actuator in an acoustic manner. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a defective actuator in a system with multiple actuators, particularly electromotive actuators.
