[Class 46.] A filter bed for sewage is closely surrounded by an impervious wall b and covered over by a roof e so that air can be drawn or forced uniformly upward through the bed and discharged through ventilator shafting h, f, flies or other insects being carried off by the air current. The liquid is supplied to the bed through a rotary sprinkler d. The sewage outlet c serves also as an air inlet. The roof e may be of wired glass. The pipe f may be connected to a fan or blower and means such as sieves or cyclones may be connected in the pipe to trap or retain the insects. The discharged air may be passed through bog iron ore. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the use of a rapidly rotating horizontal disc for distributing the liquid over the filter bed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
