In a retinal scanning display, a light source part generates light modulated in response to an image signal relating to an image, and an image is displayed by scanning the light radiated from the light source part. The retinal scanning display includes a diffraction element which is arranged on an optical path of the light radiated from the light source part and diffracts light in a predetermined diffraction direction.
