PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device, a backlight control method, and a program are provided to reduce power consumption by controlling a backlight. CONSTITUTION: An input and output display unit(11) comprises a touch panel function. A backlight(12) emits light to the input and output display unit. A comparison processor compares a reference value with the output of a sensor. The sensor senses the light reflected from an operation object. A backlight brightness controller(31) makes the output of the sensor close to a preset allowable limit output value.
