PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect gas leakage in valve closing states of first and second opening/closing solenoid valves with a high probability, in a gas combustion device provided with the first and second two opening/closing solenoid valves 8<SB>1</SB>, 8<SB>2</SB>, and a proportional solenoid valve 9 in a gas supply passage 7 of a gas burner 5. SOLUTION: When an operation switch of this gas combustion device is turned off, one of the first opening/closing solenoid valve 8<SB>1</SB>and the second opening/closing solenoid valve 8<SB>2</SB>is closed, and then the other opening/closing solenoid valve is closed after a prescribed delay time, and gas leakage check control is performed to determine whether the gas burner 5 is extinguished or not during the delay time. The order of the valve closing of the first opening/closing solenoid valve 8<SB>1</SB>and the second opening/closing solenoid valve 8<SB>2</SB>is switched at each turn-off of the operation switch.
