PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly selective method of producing a pyridine ethanol derivative at a high yield. SOLUTION: The method of producing the pyridine ethanol derivative represented by formula (3) includes allowing a specific pyridine derivative to react with an aldehyde such as formaldehyde in the presence of an alkali such as a tertiary amine in an amount of 0.01 to 1 mol relative to 1 mol of the aldehyde.
