<p>Disclosed is a caster with brake that allows the maximum possible reduction in the degree of friction of the tyre of a wheel, and that is not readily affected by road surface conditions. The caster with brake has a configuration in which a vertically-moving retractable pin (5) is disposed through a vertical shaft member (bushing) (3), and the retractable pin (5) is constantly positioned by a resilient member (12) in the upper limit position. A brake member (6) having a lower-end portion formed as bifurcated brake pieces (6a, 6a) and an upper portion disposed to be in contact with the lower end (5b) of the retractable pin (5) is suspendedly supported to be pivotable toward a wheel support leg (2) by a horizontal shaft (8) disposed in a position which is offset from the axial center of the retractable pin (5), the brake member (6) being subject to a force exerted by a resilient member (14) that pivots the brake member (6) in a direction away from a rim (4a) of the wheel (4) and the brake release state being maintained as a result of the upper portion of the brake member (6) abutting the lower end (5b) of the retractable pin (5). Braking is applied when the retractable pin (5) is pushed down in a constant stroke so as to push the upper portion of the brake member (6), which then causes the bifurcated brake pieces (6a, 6a) to pivot and come into pressure-contact with the rim (4a) on both sides of the wheel (4).</p> |
