PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of paper powder caused by the contact of a loop formed on the center part of a fed sheet with a sheet feeding roller in retreat, and to prevent the occurrence of problems such as a fall in the friction coefficient of rollers caused by the paper powder, cleaning defect of a photosensitive drum, and soil on a fixing roller and inside the device. SOLUTION: A paper feeder includes: a sheet feeding roller in an almost semicircular shape feeding a sheet by one rotation only in sheet feeding; sheet feeding rollers rotatably disposed on both sides of the sheet feeding roller coaxially with the sheet feeding roller; an intermediate plate loaded with a plurality of sheets and urged toward the sheet feeding roller in a tip side in the sheet passing direction; and a separating pad disposed down stream of a sheet loading part and energized toward the sheet feeding roller with predetermined pressure. In the sheet feeder, a protective member having a guide surface between the lowest point of the sheet feeding rollers and the lowest point of the sheet feeding roller on standby is provided in the vicinity of the sheet passing upstream side of the sheet feeding roller, and the loop formed on the sheet is prevented from coming into contact with the surface of the sheet feeding roller on standby.
