NOVEL PHOTOVOLTAIC AND PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL COATINGS AND DEVICES

A photovoltaic device and coating is described. The photosensitivity of the coating is provided by molecular diodes. The molecular diodes are coated on a conductor or on a semiconductor. A process of synthesizing an electron donor-bridge-acceptor molecular sequence on a solid substrate of a photovoltaic device is also described. The process comprises coupling of an electron donor or acceptor group to the substrate; coupling at least one electron bridge containing group to the donor or acceptor group(s); and coupling of an electron acceptor group, if step a) involved the coupling of a donor group or coupling of an electron donor group, if step a) involved the coupling of an acceptor group to the electron bridge containing group(s). A process of synthesizing an electron donor-acceptor molecular sequence on a semiconductor is also defined.
