<p>Disclosed are a solid-state image pickup device and a camera satisfying requirements for high speed AD conversion. The solid-state image pickup device includes: a plurality of unit pixels (2), a plurality of perpendicular signal lines (6), and a plurality of column AD conversion circuits (80) arranged corresponding to the perpendicular signal lines (6), that convert the signal voltages transmitted by the corresponding perpendicular signal lines (6) to digital signals. The column AD conversion circuits (80) include: a voltage comparison section (15) that compares the magnitude of a gradually changing reference signal voltage and the signal voltages obtained by the conversion to digital signals, a count section (16) that counts the time from commencement of comparison by the voltage comparison section (15) up to change of the comparison result, a threshold value ascertaining section (20) that compares the count result of the count section (16) with a prescribed threshold value, and a reference signal conversion section (19) that alters the gradient of the reference signal voltage supplied to the voltage comparison section (15) by referring to the comparison result of the threshold value ascertaining section (20).</p> |
