<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting diode which has a high output, a high efficiency, and a long life under a high humidity environment. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting diode 1 is provided with: a compound semiconductor layer 2 including a light emitting part 7; ohmic electrodes 4, 5 provided on a principal light extraction surface of the compound semiconductor layer 2; and an electrode protection film 6 for protecting the ohmic electrodes 4, 5. An Al concentration and an As concentration of surfaces 2a, 2b of the compound semiconductor layer 2 including the principal light extraction surface are equal to or smaller than 20%, and smaller than 1%, respectively. The electrode protection film 6 has a double structure composed of a first protection film 12 provided so as to cover the ohmic electrodes 4, 5 and a second protection film 13 provided so as to cover the end of the first protection film 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
