PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a die which can satisfactorily prevent the generation of air retention in the surface of a glass gob or a glass molded body, and further, can suppress clouding. SOLUTION: The method for producing a die comprises: a roughening stage where a molding face is roughened; and a covering stage where, after the roughening stage, at least one or more covering layers are formed on the surface of the molding face. In the covering stage, the covering layer(s) is formed in such a manner that the thickness is made larger in the peripheral part than the central part, and, the arithmetic average roughness of the molding face after the covering stage is smaller in the peripheral part than the central part.
