PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire capable of dramatically improving its on-ice performance and securing its performance balance with the other performance. SOLUTION: The pneumatic tire has at least two block groups G<SB>B1</SB>to G<SB>B3</SB>on its tread portion 1, wherein their block number densities D<SB>1</SB>to D<SB>3</SB>by piece/mm<SP>2</SP>are each in the range of 0.003-0.04 piece/mm<SP>2</SP>. In at least one block group G<SB>B2</SB>out of each block group G<SB>B1</SB>to G<SB>B3</SB>, the longitudinal width BL<SB>2</SB>of each block 4 is larger than the lateral width BW<SB>2</SB>thereof. In at least one block group G<SB>B1</SB>or G<SB>B3</SB>out of the other block groups G<SB>B1</SB>, G<SB>B3</SB>, the lateral widths BW<SB>1</SB>, BW<SB>3</SB>of each block 4 are larger than the longitudinal widths BL<SB>1</SB>, BL<SB>3</SB>thereof.
