PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To notify a user that button information similar to button information which the user tries to newly register has already been registered and to control registration processing of a new button according to an instruction from the user. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a registration means for newly registering a setting for executing a specific image processing function in a button; a comparison means for comparing whether the contents of a setting to be newly registered in a button are coincident or similar with/to the contents of a setting already registered in the other button or not; and a receiving means which, when the comparison means determines that the contents of the setting to be newly registered in the button are coincident or similar with/to the contents of the setting already registered in the other button, receives an instruction whether the setting to be newly registered in the button is to be registered or not from the user. The registration means determines whether the setting to be newly registered in the button is to be registered or not according to the instruction received by the receiving means.
