PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for measuring liquid properties, discriminating whether measuring object liquid has orientational polarization, and handling quantitatively the orientational polarization, when it has orientation polarization. SOLUTION: In the measuring method of liquid properties, the refractive index and a relative dielectric constant of the measuring object liquid are measured (S13), and the index P, which is an evaluation index of an orientational polarization material in the liquid is calculated from the relational expression: P=(ε<SB>r</SB>-n<SP>2</SP>)/n<SP>2;</SP>if the refractive index is n, and the relative dielectric constant isε<SB>r</SB>of the measuring object liquid (S14).
