PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calibration device and method that facilitates calibration of a position detecting part of a manual image reader. SOLUTION: The calibration device 20 is equipped with: an inspection table 210 formed with an inspection plane 212 on which a mouse scanner 40 is placed; a moving part 220 that moves the mouse scanner 40, placed on the inspection plane 212, in a moving direction DM being a linear direction nearly along the inspection plane 212 and intersecting with two coordinate axes Ax, Ay respectively showing the position to be detected by a position detecting part 420; and a plurality of marks 216a, 216b provided on the inspection plane 212 and drawn at positions that allow an imaging part 430 to separately image the marks when the mouse scanner 40 is moved by the moving part 220.
