PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of forming a cut surface at an optional angle on a workpiece and joining the cut surface and other workpiece by friction welding, and to provide a friction welding method using the apparatus. SOLUTION: The friction welding apparatus comprises a workpiece chuck-holding means having a chuck center in the Z-axis direction, and a spindle with the function of the X and Y-axis direction control and B shaft rotation control.
