PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk play-back device and an optical disk play-back method, wherein when abnormality is caused in output transition of a photodetecting element, a deformed disk is discharged while transportation is stopped, and meanwhile, a normal disk is surely loaded while transportation is continued. SOLUTION: The optical disk play-back device 10 has at least a detected value transition monitoring part 32 monitoring output transition of a phtodetecting element group 12, a light emission control part 34 controlling so that a light emitting element of the photodetecting element being cause of abnormal transition is lightened forcedly after forced putting-off, by outputting the fact that a light is not shielded when the detected value transition monitoring part 32 detects abnormality of output transition. In the detected value transition monitoring part 32, even if output of a light receiving element of the photodetecting element being cause of abnormal transition is light-emission-controlled by the light emission control part 34, when output of the fact that the light is not shielded is kept, transportation of the optical disk is continued, while, when output of the light receiving element of the photodetecting element being cause of abnormal transition is normal transition in accordance with light emission control by the light emission control part 34, the optical disk is discharged.
