PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal-insulator-based nano granular material which has a relatively small increase rate of electric specific resistance after a heat treatment and also has a uniform increase rate of electric specific resistance, and to provide a thin-film magnetic sensor that uses the material. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the metal-insulator-based nano granular material including ferromagnetic particles, having a composition represented by formula (1) and an insulating matrix made of an Mg-F-based compound filling peripheries of the ferromagnetic particles, and the thin-film magnetic sensor using the same, formula (1) of (Fe<SB>1-x</SB>Co<SB>x</SB>)<SB>100-z</SB>(B<SB>1-y</SB>Si<SB>y</SB>)<SB>z</SB>which is satisfied, where 0≤x<1, 0≤y≤1, and 0<z≤20.
