PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission capable of reducing friction loss. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission includes an input shaft 2, an output member 3, and first to third planetary gear mechanisms 4, 5 and 6. The transmission further includes a first engagement mechanism C1 for connecting a sun gear Sa and a carrier Cc to the input shaft 2 and the output member 3 respectively, and releasably connecting the input shaft 2 to a ring gear Rc; a second engagement mechanism C2 for releasably connecting a carrier Ca to the carrier Cc; a third engagement mechanism C3 for releasably connecting the carrier Ca to second connecting bodies Rb and Sc; a fourth engagement mechanism B1 for releasably fixing first connecting bodies Ra and Cb to a transmission case 1; a fifth engagement mechanism B2 for releasably fixing a sun gear Sb to the transmission case 1; and a sixth engagement mechanism B3 for releasably fixing the ring gear Rc to the transmission case 1.
