Disclosed is a technique which eliminates the need for a troublesome operation in relation to the selection of a display mode. An image display system wherein a display mode that has been most recently set to a current mode in a back mode is stored, and then if the back mode has been set, the display mode that has been most recently set to the current mode is set to a current mode immediately after the back mode. Consequently, a driver can be relieved from a troublesome operation that selects a desired display mode each time driving a vehicle in reverse.
