The method involves determining control signal (23) of an internal combustion engine by a regulation and/or control device (21). The engine is operated in a preset target rotational speed and/or preset target power based on the signal. The signal is provided to another regulation and/or control device (22) by the former device. The latter device generates control signal (24) for an exhaust-gas turbocharger (16) based on the former signal such that a defined mixture (11) of fuel (12) e.g. gas, and combustion air (13) is provided to a cylinder (10) to operate the engine at a preset lambda value. An independent claim is also included for an Otto-internal combustion engine comprising cylinders for combustion of mixture of fuel and combustion air.
