<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize a steering load even when the right and left steering angles are large when an outboard motor is steered to the right and left. <P>SOLUTION: In the steering apparatus, the connection hole 37 of a steering plate 27 is subjected to a force F1 in the tangential direction of a circular arc 47 when the outboard motor is steered to the right or the left. A pressing force applied by a steering rod 35 to the steering plate 27 in the left steering is defined as T3, and a pulling force applied by a steering rod 35 to the steering plate 27 in the right steering is defined as T4. Since β3 is equal to β4, T3 is equal to T4. In other words, the steering loads in the left steering and the right steering are equalized. Furthermore, since T2 is smaller than T4, the steering load is improved.
